Description
Youkai have once again begun to swarm the Hakurei Shrine, prompting Reimu and Marisa to separately head for a lake in the mountains - the apparent source of a tremendous power surge. The two reach a gateway underneath the lake which transports them to an odd fantasy world - the location of the mansion Mugenkan, where the mastermind supposedly lurks.

Unique Gameplay Mechanics

Introduction of Focusing
* This is the first bullet hell game in the series where you can Focus, which will slow you down for easier bullet-dodging (although your hitbox doesn't become visible when doing this as it does later on in the series).
Hidden Rank System
* As unbelievable as it may sound, this entry in the series brings with it a Rank system. Basically, the better you play in one run (collect lots of items, gain lives, don't bomb or die), the higher the Rank will be, the harder attacks will become, while dying and scoring little with decrease the Rank. This mechanic disappears after Touhou 7 - Perfect Cherry Blossom.
Dream Bonus
* For all your scoring needs, this game introduces the Dream mechanic. Aside from Power and Point items, the Dream item makes its appearance. These items increase your Dream by a set amount per item, maxing out at 12800. This value is added to the Point item's, so for example, grabbing a Point item at the top of the screen (51200 points) with 12800 Dream will bring the item's value to 64000.

Scorefile
* It has 25% completion status (Extra is only unlocked for Reimu A).
-> You can help get this scorefile to 100%! If you have a scorefile which improves upon the progress in this existing file, please submit it to us!

I don't see any way to play.

well actually, you'll need to get an emulator (like Neko Project II) and follow the instructions on the download page for the emulator. then you open the hdi file with your emulator once you have the correct setup.

I'd reccomend using T98 , so far , I've haven't got a problem with it ,  the only one I can think of is that it  lags ( rarely)  and ( I think) you can't change it to full screen.

I'll tell you how to use it , however ,  multiple videos could probably  do it better then me. First , download it ( You should be able to do it right?)  Once you've extracted it ( or used WinRaR which I use) . You should scroll down  until you find   a file called ` T98 english`  double click it. You should be  able to find a  image   with black and blue or white and has the word next in it and next , next to it. Ignore the first next    Now ,  make sure you've downloaded  a PC-98  game. Now ,  once you've got your PC-98 game , click the tab  next to the  red box under  the  1  under  HD DRIVE . Okay , then  find your  2hu pc-98 era game.  Once you've got it. You see the buttons on the left? Click the one on the top. Alright , you're ready to go!

Anyway , I think this will work. Here are the download links for the emulator.

Edit: This is for the lads who don't know how to use WinRaR.

Click the link I've put in this message. Press X or press ` Open when done `.

Look up  and you should find a button called ` extract to ` click it and choose where you want the   emulator to be . Alright , that's all

Is that me? or the game is running a bit choppier than usual? i've just downloaded the latest version of NP2 and followed the instructions correctly from this website, when i run Touhou 4 on NP2 with the settings are configured correctly and run the game... the frame rate is getting choppy even though i've followed the instructions.

Seems like it's just an issue with Neko Project, I tried using the T98 emulator linked above as well and the game ran perfectly fine.

Semi rant coming.

I was finally able to beat the main story in Touhou 4 today on normal mode after years of playing it on "!EASY MODO!". Honestly, if you bomb at the right times, such as the extra hard bullet spawn spam section before the actual Yuuka boss battle in stage 6, you should be fine, even though there are people who have been able to beat this without bombing. AND let me tell you, extra mode kicked my butt, even though according to the reults screen after losing all my lives at the stage itself, it told me that I got through a bit more than 30 percent of the stage. And what's more weird was a graphical bug that I found when trying to 1cc the main game with Reimu B, cause I did it with Reimu A. At the fight with Ellen, when I bombed, I got such a graphical mess that the screen did not render properly and was stuck with the picture for the bomb, in such a way as the ghosting view of Touhou 7 when you get to the part of the Alice fights. And the graphical bug was on the T98-Next emulator. And I was also doing it on an unpatched copy on an hdi file I found online. Hopefully, it was just today for the bug.
