  1. Touhou Luna Nights

    Release Information
    Type: 2D Action/Platform
Developer: Vaka Game Magazine, Team Ladybug
    Publisher: Why so serious?, PLAYISM
    Release: 26 Feb, 2019
    Language: English (and other)
    Description

Touhou Luna Nights is a Metroidvania title with a heavy emphasis on exploration and action.
Developed by Team Ladybug, creators of multiple fantastic action games thus far.

    Story

    “...Now, let’s begin my world.”
Remilia Scarlet, head vampire of the Scarlet Devil Mansion sends her maid Sakuya Izayoi with no warning to a world much like Gensokyo, but not quite.
A world full of strange places, filled with strange youkai and her time manipulation sealed.
What could Remilia’s end game be...?

    What's special about this game

・Time stop system from character's Ability and Gimmick maps that use special abilities like time stop.

・Adapt the "graze" system of the Touhou Project into a 2D game, giving you a sense of tension in approaching to the enemy.

・Graphics that bring out the appeal of Touhou world, such as attractive dot Graphics.

    A word from the publisher

Team Ladybug began with "Pharaoh Rebirth," continuing with other enjoyable games including "Resurrection of Beldia" and "Shin Megami Tensei SYNCHRONICITY PROLOGUE."
Since, I have been waiting in anticipation for their next project.

This time, they have created a fan fiction game based off the world-renowned "Touhou Project."
From the background to the character's movements and various skills, one can feel the creator's passion for games and love of the Touhou project.

While it has a Metroidvania style, the game can easily progress without the insistence of repeat elements or collecting items. This has resulted in a spectacular game born from the game production skills cultivated by Team Ladybug.

And I personally want to highlight the beauty of the anime sprite.
You can see the attention to detail the creator put into not only the leading character's movements, but the effects and enemy characters.
Touhou Luna Nights is not only for Touhou fans but one that can be enjoyed by anyone who loves 2D action games.

  2. Endless Marisa - Shirokuro Mahoutsukai Kikiippatsu!

    Release Information
    Type: Platform
    Developer: LION HEART
    Publisher: LION HEART
    Release: Comiket 71, December 29, 2006
    Language: English
    Description
Concept: If you've ever played the old NES title "Joust" and the old arcade game "WonderBoy," combine the thoughts of these two games, and you'll have a general idea what kind of game this is.  It's basically a time killer, although it's a very addictive one.  It involves killing endless swarms of Alice's Shanghai Dolls.
How It Works: You hit "Start" and pick one of the stages to attempt.  Things start off slow at first to put you in the mood; single enemies pop up, and you throw your magic stars at them to kill them (they'll also drop gold bars for you to pick up for extra points).  You get five hearts, which means your game is over when you've been hit 5 times.  As you survive longer, a greater variety of dolls start spawning faster and in greater numbers, until they start filling the screen.  As you'd assume from the title, there is no way to actually win; you simply score as high as you possibly can (the addictive aspect of the game).  To keep things interesting, there are several types of dolls with different capabilities, and every once in a while, Alice herself flies across the top of the screen to throw dolls at you; shoot her down for bonus points.  For more details on the modernization features, see "Advanced Strategy" under the gameplay screenie.   Modernization Features
As this is a 2006 release (by Lion Heart, no less, famous for producing "Mystical Chain;" see above), simply running, jumping, and throwing normal stars forward are not your only options; a few modern amenities have been added to the addictive old-school gameplay:

    * Aim Shots: By holding any direction, any stars you fire will go in that general direction.  You can aim shots upward, for example, to hit enemies on platforms above where you stand, or jump over an enemy and fire downward at it!
    * Charge Shot: If you hold the "Attack" button briefly, you will charge for a more powerful shot; it can be held as long as you like (just release the button to fire it).  Charge Shots can be aimed like normal shots, and will go farther to give you more bang for your buck.  Charge Shots can form combos.
    * Comboing:  If you charge a shot, fire, and hit a doll with it, if there are other dolls standing within the blast radius (whether it's horizontal or vertical), those dolls will die also, creating an additional explosion (and if other dolls are standing in that blast, they'll die too, and so on!).  You can wipe out entire platforms worth of dolls this way (or clear out the bottom floor).  Gold dropped by chained dolls is worth more, depending which number in the chain the doll was.
    * Chaining: If you keep your calm, and are accurate with your shots and don't miss, the game will count each consecutive doll you kill in a Chain, which makes kills worth progressively more points until you break your Chain by either taking a hit yourself, or firing a shot and missing.  Charge shots also count in Chains (so don't miss with those, either).
    * Drop Down Through Platforms: If you're on a platform you can jump up through, you can drop back down through it, too, by double-tapping the Down button.
    * Slide: You can slide by holding Down and hitting Jump.  Sliding is basically a way to sidestep out of difficult situations; you can pass through enemies without taking damage this way.  Once you learn exactly how far a slide will take you, it proves an invaluable way to escape in addition to jumping.

    Doll Colors
The color of the doll's uniform indicates how it moves around and whether it will try to follow you around:

    * Green: Shy doll.  These can't jump high or far, and they don't follow you around.  They also can't jump off whichever platform they're on (like green koopa troopas in Super Mario Bros).
    * Yellow: Normal doll.  These jump just a bit higher and farther than a green doll, and can jump off (but not through) their current platform, but they don't follow you around either.
    * Red: Intelligent doll.  Red dolls are capable of the same speed of movement as normal yellow dolls, but these will follow you around if they spot you, and are capable of vertical jumps through platforms upward and dropping downward to stay on your tail as necessary.
    * Blue: Super doll.  Blue dolls jump higher and farther than red dolls, and follow you around with great fervor once they see you.  Like red dolls, they can jump up and down through platforms as well.
    * Black: Miniboss doll.  A while after the screen has become infested with dolls, it starts to shake; this is your indication a black miniboss doll is present: as they are heavy (like Metal Mario), their jumping causes the screen to shake.  These take a bunch of hits to kill, unlike regular dolls, and are worth a lot of points when you kill them.

As stated before, there's no way to actually "win;" you just keep going until the dolls become too much to handle and all your hearts disappear off your life gauge.  Never end~

Some special abilities that don't require picking up any green orbs:
    * Walking on Clouds: Aya
    * Stage-Warping Power: Yukari
      A Note on Progression
There are 200 areas in the "normal game;" the formal game ends when you beat the boss inhabiting area 200. Thus, the areas 201+ are considered the post-game content (along with some of the other areas around 100ish).   Description
Plot Point: No idea, honestly. Not that this game has any actual talking in it. Well, maybe not "no idea". Far's we can tell, mysterious doors have appeared all around Gensokyo, and Marisa & Reimu go check it out.  This game is based upon another game known as Atlantis no Nazo (The Mystery of Atlantis).

How It Works: You explore the various doors; the number indicates what area it is.  Higher numbers are meant to be cleared later, of course.  As you find other characters, you'll fight them as bosses, and when you defeat them, they join your ever-increasing team, up to 25 members!  Each character has different abilities, including the size of their hitbox or jump height, so make sure you try out each character when you earn them so you can see what they're capable of.  Upon defeating bosses, you also get a Full Power powerup that brings all your dead characters back to life and restores everyone to full.

Spirit Points: The blue gauge under your HP gauge is your Spirit Points (SP) (sometimes known as Danmaku Points, or "DP"); this gauge depletes as you continually fire danmaku, and refills slowly when you're not firing, though picking up blue spirit pickups will refill it faster.

Treasure & 1-Ups: Throughout the game, you'll find treasure chests containing various amounts of Points.  Collecting enough gives you a 1-Up, which is important: your starting supply of extra lives is pretty small, and you use the extra lives you acquire as resurrection items (highlight a dead character and hit confirm to resurrect them).

  4. Han Tamashii Takeshi Geichou

    Release Information
    Type: Point-and-Click Action
    Developer: Y-Cubed
    Publisher: Y-Cubed
    Release: Reitaisai 9, May 27, 2012
    Language: Japanese
    Default Controls
[Mouse]: Control Half Ghost / Aim (Make a circular motion for a rotating slash)
    [Left Click]: Danmaku / Confirm
    [Right Click]: Movement / Cancel
[Z]: Iaido Stance; Use movement to slash
    [X]: Title Screen
    [Esc]: Kill Game
    Description
Plot Point: (Conjecture) Realizing her own weakness, Youmu trains to become stronger, taking challenges throughout Gensokyo under the supervision of Yuyuko.

How it Works: The game starts off by putting you into a hub area, where you can choose to battle, upgrade your stats, or save the game. Story mode will place you into a boss fight instance. There is no pausing, so make sure that both Youmu and your physical state are ready for a complete duel. You can strike by firing danmaku, sweeping with your sword, or expending spirit in an Iaido blow (Quick draw of the blade; think Kenshin and battoujutsu, or 200 Yojana in 1 Slash). While Iaido is your only attack that expends spirit, it also provides mobility and invincibility frames. Bullets can be absorbed with your blades, which regenerates your spirit. Hitting the enemy with danmaku will also regenerate your spirit. If you fail the boss scene, you can challenge as many times as you like. If you find your strength insufficient, you can train. Training will net you experience points with which to strengthen Youmu, and can be spent to strengthen her base stats or attack options.   Menu Options Training: Here Youmu can participate in various minigames that help develop your skill in using her various attacks. You will be awarded points with which to upgrade her stats depending on how well you perform. In this order, there is Intruder Shoot-up for shooting, Cherry Blossom Slashing for Iaido, and Bullet Slashing for the rotational slash. As you progress through the story, greater difficulty levels will be unlocked. Stat Growth: Here Youmu's stats can be upgraded within four major categories, in this order: The Foundations, Danmaku, Iaido, and Sword Sweeping. Within each category are three sub-categories, which will be listed in the order which they appear. The Foundations - Maximum Health, Maximum Spirit, Natural Spirit Recovery Over Time. Danmaku - Bullet Damage, Bullet Size, Bullet Attack Spirit Recovery. Iaido - Attack Strength, Slash Movement Speed, Spirit Cost Reduction. Sword Sweeping - Attack Strength, Attack Range, Bullet Absorption Spirit Recovery. Story Mode: Here you can continue the story and face boss scenes. Save Game: This is where you can record your progress. It is recommended that you save at least at the beginning of each chapter.
      Strategy
If you ever find it too difficult to defeat a boss, a strategy that usually works is to stay next to the boss and continuously use the Sword Sweep. You will eat any bullets that are fired while doing damage to the boss, but the game will feel cheap if you abuse this too much. Perhaps its best for such a simple girl to, as Marisa put it, go around "slashing like an idiot."

  5. Mystical Chain

    Release Information
    Type: Single-Screen Beat-'Em-Up
    Developer: Lion Heart
    Publisher: Lion Heart
    Release: Comiket 76, August 15, 2009
    Version: 1.21
    (Includes Training & Desperate Mode)
    Language: English
(Well, everywhere you really need it.)

    Character Information
    Playable Characters: 3
(Alice, Marisa, Patchouli - you pick a pair) Description
Concept:  Each area is a single screen with some platforms and monsters; defeating everything clears the stage.  There are five chapters, consisting of 5 stages each, complete with a boss fight as the final stage of each chapter.
How It Works: You choose a pair of girls to play as, and control both.  You start off in control of the girl you picked first (called your "master") but you can switch with your other character (called your "slave") anytime you want.  Both girls have their own independent HP gauges, but share their CP and the SP gauge.  Your Chain Points (CP) are used to swap girls and for directional button special moves, and recharge themselves after you don't do either for a bit.  Your max CP is extended by 1 for each boss you defeat.  Your SP can be used to use spell cards, or resurrect a dead partner (First Aid).   Advanced Strategy

    Slave Orders
By default, your Slave's function is set to "follow," where they follow you closely so you can swap easily.  However, if you hold Down and hit [Swap], you change the order to "ambush," where the Slave stays put until you swap or change the order back, allowing you to use advanced tactics to backstab enemies, or bat them back and forth for huge damage.  Slaves waiting patiently under ambush orders regenerate HP.

    First Aid
It's hard to do without your partner.  If they should perish in battle, you can stand over their body and hold Down and hit [Spell Card] to sacrifice one spell card to resurrect your partner.

    Training
You can use Training on any non-boss stage; when choosing a stage, hit [Swap] instead of [Attack] to confirm.  In Training, enemies don't move or attack, and you can practice all you want; just pause and exit when done.  Please note that if you try to use Training Mode on a boss stage, it will crash the game.

    Boss Rush
If you've earned the True End on any difficulty for a pairing (by beating the Secret Chapter), you earn the right to attempt the Boss Rush with that pairing for that difficulty; when selecting your stage, hit left from 1-1 to highlight and choose Boss Rush.

    Desperate Mode
If you manage to get the True End on Lunatic with a pairing, you earn a fifth ridiculously hard difficulty setting for that pairing called Desperate Mode, which will be found under the selection for Lunatic difficulty.

  6. Rush the Hina

    Release Information
    Type: 2D Platformer
    Developer: Sweet Lapine
    Publisher: Sweet Lapine
    Release: Comiket 82, August 2012
    Language: Japanese   Description
Plot Point: Well, this is easy. There isn't one. Literally. You have to game modes, (Rush & Challenge) and picking one just immediately tosses you straight into the game.

How it Works: Well, you jump. And that's about it. Hina runs automatically at a set speed. There are gaps in the platforms, and it's your job to jump over them to make it to the exit/ as far as possible, depending on which mode you're playing. Also, Hina has double-jump capability. If the double-jump isn't enough for you, after you've used up both of your jumps you can continue to tap the jump button which will make Hina spin/hover up slowly into the air. However, you can't do this forever, as Hina has a stamina gauge which lowers as you spin.

Items that I guess I can mention:
Horseshoe-type orb item: Yeah, I'm not exactly sure what it's supposed to be, but it raises Hina's move speed. It also gives her silly little swirls where her feet should go. Just to mention that.
"Orz" orbs: I think they say "Orz" in the middle. Not sure. However, I do know that they drain a heck ton of your stamina meter, so avoid touching them.
EDIT: Apparently "orz" is some emote for defeat, so yeah. That's a thing. Applauds and stuff to Swfw
Black hole-type orb: Yeah, sorry. I don't have a clue what this does. Someone should be kind enough to mention it, if you find out.
Spirits: You find these all over the place. They're the bottom number in the top right corner of the screen. I guess they're added to your "score" or some such. Extras
    1. Yeah, sorry, but I didn't do a very good job with the items.
    2. The number in the very top-right corner is your distance.
    3. The Green things next to your Stamina are your lives.

    ● Back to Title Screen
    Description

Sanae & Momie - With Ibarakasen or sometimes known as "Sanamomie" is the next generation of Katsugeki Kidan's series but the story is not related. The game was developed using the same engine and requires players to eradicate demons by using 3 heroines: Momiji Inubashiri, Sanae Kochiya and Kasen Ibaraki. Each girl comes with different abilities and actions. Their special moves can be executed by pressing the direction key combined with the attack button ("shift" key by default). Momiji is a great destroyer and good for close range, Sanae is long range attacker with barrage bullets, and Ibaraki is a demon power user with medium strength.

For Starters: It appears to me that Gatling Cat has been receiving input from fans, and has responded in kind; that which is "Sanae & Momie" actually features three playable characters.
Momiji, who starred in the first 3 games, plus Sanae and Kasen.  You heard me right, Kasen Ibara.  That, and it looks much nicer than even Katsugeki Kidan 3; the graphics have, compared to their other games, received a huge makeover (most noticeably the HUD, which now displays numbers as well as very colorful gauges).

Other Stuff: This game, for the most part, generally plays almost identically to Katsugeki Kidan 3; after picking your girl and your difficulty level (Easy/Normal/Hard), you pick and play stages, where you kill regular enemies and a boss.  As with KK3, you also level up in this game (and this time, all your stats increase automatically every level, and you don't assign level-up bonuses; rather, you use the gold you collect to purchase permanent stat increases, which is all you'll be using it for).

Gold/XP Sutff: Unlike KK3, in this game, you do lose the Gold you collected in a stage if you die enough times to get sent back to the Intermission screen (which is now 3, and you can earn extra lives now too!).  You do still get to keep your experience, however (even though it looks like it says on the pause screen that you won't).

MP-Consuming Skills: Also, rather than clearing silly challenges for Nitori to earn skills and/or purchasing them from the shop, they cut that crap out too: you start with 4 skills (selectable on your Inventory Bar) and earn 2 more for beating two specific bosses.  Upgrades to skills you have are easily purchasable in the shop.  (Your Special also consumes MP, and as far as I can tell is not upgradeable.)

SP-Consuming Skills: Skills requiring you to press directional button(s) and hit Attack consume some of your Skill gauge instead of consuming your MP.  Your SP regenerates automatically when you're not using it.

Holdable Items!: Aside from finding instant-recovery rice cakes, you can also find what looks to be dark dumplings (around 10-15% HP restoration) and what appears to be a frosted filled donut (for 10-15% MP restoration), which you can hold up to 9 of each, and as with your skills, you simply select them on your Inventory Bar and hit the Skill button to eat them.  (Not sure what that third item is yet, haven't gotten that far, but I assume it restores both HP and MP.)

  8. Sanae Challenge! Fusion

    Release Information
    Type: Platforming/Action/Capture The Flag
Developer: Lion Heart Publisher: Lion Heart
    Release: Comiket 78, August 14, 2010
    Language: English/Japanese
(English only on the main menus)

    Character Information
    Playable Characters: 1
(Sanae, Utsuho helps though)   Default Controls
Controls can be set in the Config.exe, and will accept a gamepad.
    Button 1 [Z]: Confirm/Shoot Stars
    ● Holding the button by itself makes her shoot a continuous stream of stars. These can be aimed in any direction after you start shooting.
    ● Hold Down and Shoot to create a wind tunnel to suck up nearby kedama; you can hold the wind tunnel open as long as you like. When ready to fire, hold the direction you'd like them to go in, and release the Fire button.
    ● Holding Down + Shoot on a base works on purifying a base to capture it. You can do a bit, walk away, and resume later if you must.
    Button 2 [X]: Jump
    ● Sanae can perform two midair jumps, and jumps really high to boot!
    ● In midair, hit Down + Jump button to hover on a whirlwind; this effectively puts Sanae in "standing on ground" status in midair so you can use the wind tunnel mid-jump. (Just jump to come down from your whirlwind.) Button 3 [C]: Call Utsuho
    ● You can only call Utsuho when standing on the ground or on a whirlwind.
    ● Hold the button and use Left/Right to select from the command list.
    ● Remember that Utsuho is a bird-brain; if you order her to Attack, she'll do it in the same direction you're facing, and she prefers to stay above your position.
    Button 4 [A]: Skip
    ● Useful for skipping boss dialogue.   Description
Concept: This is the second (and most recent) game in the Sanae Challenge series.  Sanae returns to gather more faith by capturing kedama bases throughout the many laps of each stage, at the end of which you have to fight a boss.  Also, you are joined by the hell raven herself, Utsuho!
How It Works:  In each stage, you have to capture kedama bases to gain faith and to move on to the later laps of the stage; your Faith value (the percentage on the right side of the screen) also acts as Sanae's health, so try and keep your faith high, or else you will fail the mission.  On the last lap of the stage you must fight the boss and capture the final kedama base to finish the stage and move on.
Utsuho: Once Utsuho joins halfway through stage 1 (she assists from the beginning of all other stages), she'll assist by using physical attacks when she feels like it, but you can hold the Call button to pick from a list of commands to issue to your bird-brained friend; you can order her to Attack to have her use her fusion energy to create a huge frontal blast, create a Barrier around yourself to prevent damage so you can capture bases more quickly, ask for Flight to hop on her back and fly around for a bit, or tell her to use Fusion to get rid of those ghost kedama!
Kedama: Hitting kedama or flinging them around with the wind tunnel only temporarily stuns them; the only way to destroy them is to capture the base they came from.  Different colors of kedama have different attributes or abilities (for example, black ones recover quickly, and green ones fire at you), so analyze and approach each situation accordingly.

Now, it is up to Takorin, one of the arbitrators of Kouzatsukyo, to track down the creatures who escaped from and her world and find who - or what - is responsible.

How it Works: This plays out like a Megaman Zero game as you can kick your enemies to deal heavy damage or shoot them with eye lazers for rapid fire damage, you select from eight stages and as you beat each of the bosses you learn new moves to use against enemy.   Special Attacks: To preform one of the special attacks (Which you get from the first eight bosses) you press the keys that you got told to use from the results screen after the stage and then press the special attack button, this would do nothing if you entered the command wrong, but when you enter the command correctly you should see Takorin preform a special attack on the enemy, whether this is a screen clearer or a single target attack.   The game's Steam page (please buy it if you can):  https://store.steampowered.com/app/1732480/Takkoman_Kouzatsu_World/
